Good Questions.
Everything you want to know before you buy.
The OneTouch™ Clasp
The OneTouch™ is a magnetic clasp designed to close with a single gentle click and hold securely through everyday wear.
Unlike a traditional lobster or barrel clasp — which require two hands, good lighting, and a fair amount of patience — the OneTouch™ brings itself together the moment the two ends come close.
You can put it on and take it off entirely on your own. Simple, secure, and effortless every time.
The OneTouch™ clasp holds securely through normal everyday wear. We test every clasp before it leaves us. A full bottle of perfume hanging from the chain doesn't budge it.
If you pull hard enough, it will come undone — but pull that hard on a conventional clasp and it would probably break.
One thing worth keeping in mind with the bracelet: if you're doing something where it could get caught — taking off a jacket, for example — just be mindful of it, the same as you would with any bracelet.
It holds exactly as well as jewellery needs to hold for daily life.
The OneTouch™ clasp uses a magnet. Magnets can interfere with pacemakers and some other implanted medical devices. If you wear a pacemaker or any implanted device, please consult your doctor before wearing magnetic jewellery.
The magnet in the OneTouch™ clasp is small and designed for jewellery use. It is not strong enough to affect credit cards, phones, or electronic devices in normal wear.
The Jewellery
PVD stands for Physical Vapour Deposition. It's a high-tech process where gold particles are bonded to stainless steel at a molecular level inside a vacuum chamber. The result is a finish that is significantly harder and more durable than traditional gold plating — and used by luxury watchmakers including Rolex and Cartier.
It's also worth noting — 14kt PVD gold finished jewellery feels lighter than most gold plated or vermeil pieces. Traditional gold plating uses brass or copper as the base metal, and vermeil uses sterling silver — both heavier than stainless steel. The lighter weight makes PVD jewellery more comfortable for everyday wear.
PVD vs Gold Plating & Solid Gold
- Gold plating — tarnishes quickly, not waterproof, weight depends on base metal
- Gold vermeil — tarnishes over time, not waterproof, needs care, typically heavier
- 9/14/18kt solid gold — tarnish resistant, waterproof, significantly more expensive
- 14kt PVD finish (Avean) — tarnish resistant, waterproof, lightweight, built for daily wear
PVD is a cleaner process than traditional gold plating — it produces no liquid waste and uses no harsh chemicals, making it a more environmentally responsible choice.
Yes. The stainless steel base used across all Avean pieces is hypoallergenic and nickel-free. The 14kt PVD coating bonds tightly to the metal, so the base never comes in contact with your skin. Freshwater pearls are also naturally hypoallergenic.
Yes. The 14kt PVD gold finish on all Avean hardware — including the OneTouch™ clasp — is waterproof and sweat resistant. You can shower, swim, and exercise wearing it without concern. It won't tarnish, fade, or discolour with regular wear.
Freshwater pearls are a natural gemstone — beautiful, and a little more delicate than the PVD gold finished hardware. The good news is that caring for them is simple.
Put your pearls on last — after perfume, hairspray, and skincare. Take them off first. A quick wipe with a soft cloth when you remove them is all the daily care they need.
Avoid direct contact chemicals and chlorinated water. For deep cleaning, a soft cloth dampened with lukewarm water is all you need — never soak a strand of pearls it can weaken the string, let them dry flat.
Store your pearls in the soft pouch they arrive in, flat and separately from other jewellery. Harder stones and metal clasps can scratch the surface of the pearl over time.
One more thing — wear them. Pearls actually benefit from regular wear. The skin's natural moisture helps maintain their lustre. A pearl left in a drawer is a pearl slowly losing its shine.
All Avean necklaces are 45cm with a 9cm extender piece — so you can wear your necklace at 45cm to match a shorter neckline or by adding the extender your necklace becomes 54cm for a longer, more relaxed fall. The extender is included as standard with every necklace.
Bracelets are 18cm, designed to fit most wrists comfortably.
